Can I margin trade/short bitcoin on Bitfinex with only a btc balance in my trading wallet?

I only have btc and want to short with leverage, and the margin trade page doesn't do anything when I click margin sell with a high limit as a test - no active order shows up and I don't get any error.
In my mind system should sell my btc and borrow any additional btc needed for leverage through btc swaps at the best available rate, that is what I'd expect. If I have 1 btc in my trading wallet I should be able to margin sell 2 btc because of 2:1 leverage. If the price of btc drops by about around half minus fees, I get liquidated.
When using fiat to margin sell with leverage, it looks like Bitfinex automatically picks up USD swaps at the best rate automatically. It is unclear when/if those swaps expire. Do I have to buy btc swaps manually when leveraging with a btc trading balance instead of fiat?
If buying btc swaps manually, what if I choose a swap with a 2 day range but end up needing to hold the short for 3 days? What if the swap range is 30 days but I don't need it after I am done shorting in 3 days, will I have to pay interest on the remaining days? This part is confusing and I haven't been able find the necessary information by googling.
Edit:
There was an error message, "Not enough balance". I just missed it. I entered a lower btc amount and it worked. Need sleep after yesterday's late night rally.

Margin trading: how much to repay?

Just playing around with margin trading (shorting) for the first time, but seems I always come up short with the repay amount.
1 - I click sell, borrow, select amount all good
2 - When I want to buy back what I owe I click the 'repay' button which gives the amount of coin I need to repay.
3 - I copy this into the buy field and buy them with the 'repay' option checked.
First off, the 'repay' option doesn't seem to do anything, I always have to click the 'repay' button and pay manually. Secondly I don't seem to have the required of coins to amount to repay. I assume this is due to fees(?), but if so, how can I buy the required amount including fees? Surely there is a simple way to do this I'm missing!
Thanks

MARGIN

Its kind of hard to make money when there are only 3 coins on the entire exchange that are green over the last 24 hrs. Please, please, add margin trading. Shorting in the current market would just be straight $$$.

Dimensions Network - A Potential Hidden Gem?

I've thoroughly read through Dimension Networks ICO website and White Paper and overall have had a good impression of it. They aim to create a hybrid (centralised & decentralised) exchange which enables regular trading, margin trading, shorting, options trading and futures trading.
The STC token also gives a proportion of 15% of all trading fees.
The biggest concern I have however is Dimensions Networks rating on ICObench before they requested it to be removed (1.3 out of 5): https://icobench.com/ico/dimensions-network
What are your thoughts on Dimension Network. Would you consider investing into it?

Upcoming ICO recommendations?

I've done quite a bit of research looking for the most promising ICOs and would like to hear your opinion on what are the best to invest in the coming months.
So far I've invested in:
Dimensions Network - an ICO which aims to create a Hybrid Cryptocurrency trading platform which will include trading options such including Regular Trading, Margin Trading, Shorting, Options Trading, Futures Trading an Exchange Aggregator among other features.
I'm also currently very interested in investing in:
Abyss - An upcoming gaming blockchain network akin to Steam. I was sold on their ICO due to their MLM scheme which will really hook developers and gamers to the platform. They are also using the DAICO model that Buterin recommended so that was a plus!
If you don't mind disclosing, what ICOs have you invested in and which are you planning to invest into in the near future?
Edit: Thank you very much for your ICO recommendations! I'll have a look a them :).

World's First Stablecoin Relayer ::: ForDeX ::: Launch Announcement

World's First Stablecoin Relayer ::: ForDeX ::: Launch Announcement
Singapore, 8th February, 2019
https://preview.redd.it/zukcg6ykxaf21.png?width=596&format=png&auto=webp&s=254178f17b39f62fede3d7c4cc90165716f04ffe
ZPX is pleased to announce the official launch of the alpha version of ForDeX, a stablecoin-focused exchange built on 0x. ForDeX is a first-of-its-kind platform solely focused on enabling traders to buy, sell and store wealth in a range of stablecoins denominated in currencies including the US Dollar, the Korean Won and the Singapore Dollar. ForDeX is launching alongside KRWb and will be the first platform offering end-to-end trading from USD fiat to KRWb stablecoin.
“Attacks on centralized exchanges (CEXs) have continued with increased frequency – total losses in just the first half of 2018 were over $1 billion. We’re now slowly seeing renewed interest in decentralized exchanges (DEXs) despite current challenges. We expect DEXs to vastly overtake centralized exchanges eventually.”, said Aditya (Adi) Mishra, COO and Co-founder at ZPX, the company which building ForDeX.
“ForDeX addresses a host of user needs. First, it has a ready fiat-on-ramp at launch which ensures that users are able to convert their fiat into their favourite cryptocurrencies on the platform itself. Second, being a DEX, it is fully decentralized and does not take custody of user funds. Last, it supports multiple wallets such as Trezor, Ledger and Metamask.”, said Ramani (Ram) Ramachandran, CEO and Co-founder at ZPX.
“We’ve currently added 3 US Dollar stablecoins and 1 Korean Won stablecoin, KRWb. Our short-term plan is to enable margin trading, shorting and leverage to allow users to take on larger positions without committing much capital. Our long-term goal is to become a one-stop platform for cryptocurrency foreign exchange trading (which is why the platform is called ForDeX – a foreign exchange DEX).”, according to Gangadhar Sulkunte, who heads products at ZPX.
Currently in its alpha version, ForDeX invites users to try out the platform and engage with the team on Reddit, Telegram and Twitter to help the team improve and modify features that users may require. ZPX plans to continue alpha testing for another few months and then launch a beta version with more features installed.
About ZPX ZPX is a Singapore-based venture-backed firm operating in the blockchain space with offices in Singapore, India and the US. ZPX is led by a team with significant experience across financial services and technology. ZPX investors include the founder of Google AdSense, two tech unicorn founders and Seedplus, the leading Singaporean early stage VC. ZPX has built multiple blockchain products including 108Token and Satoshi&Co and organized events such as De/Centralize.

What makes Dimensions Network exchange so special?

Dimensions Network is a next-gen trading exchange, but what does it mean exactly and what makes it so special?

Dimensions Network is written in Erlang

Erlang is one of the few functional programming languages used in the industry. Especially telephone and network equipment manufacturers use Erlang because of its good scalability and parallelism. This gives the trading exchange a very high degree of scalability, which is very important for 24/7 accessibility in the growing crypto market.

Dimensions Network Exchange Aggregator

With the growing number of exchanges, Dimensions Network offers a central solution. You can buy cryptocurrency in exchange X and sell on exchange Y. Thus, arbitrage is possible for anyone, because you only need liquidity on Dimensions Network and not on all exchanges. Purchases and sale in seconds without having to send Cryptocurrency back and forth between the exchanges.

Advanced Trading Features, Futures, Margin Trading, Shorting

Futures are a type of derivative security. They’re also incredibly versatile – you can hedge against dips in the market to protect your portfolio, or capitalise on speculative rises. Got a hunch that the market is going to swing upwards? Set up a Futures contract, lock in a great price, and you could be looking at a very impressive profit.
Margin Trading can be a great way to diversify your portfolio. Simply pick your coins and you’ve just added a whole new element to your portfolio to benefit from.
Shorting is a great way to profit. If you believe that a coin is going to struggle in the next couple of months, you can borrow and sell that particular coin on the Dimensions exchange. Then, after a set period you buy the coin back and return it to the exchange. You then receive the amount that it’s dropped in profit – a simple and easy way to trade.

A QUIZ TO PROTECT TRADERS

Dimensions Network taking a proactive approach to educate and protect its users. What's more it will stay one step ahead of regulation. In the regulated financial markets, trading platforms can be required to perform "appropriateness tests" on retail investors based on the complexity of the instruments they offer (MiFID II). For example, your local broker will happily let you buy a share of Amazon, but buying Options on Amazon stock may be considered complex, requiring appropriateness tests to be completed first.
Dimensions Network is building a separate support website where its users will be able to take a series of quizzes and gain trading certifications. It’s not only simple to use, but fully integrated into the rest of the platform for a seamless experience. Just a few simple clicks, and you could be on your way to putting all of our unique features to good use.

Not just an Whitepaper Vision

With the alpha launch just around the corner, traders and investors alike can look forward to a seamless and hassle-free trading experience. How does shorting, margin trading & co actually works on kraken?

I couldn't find any satisfying information in the FAQ or trading guide about how i.e. short selling actually works and what fees apply.
Am I lending real coins? from whom? Or is kraken itself the counterparty of my trade? What fees do apply and how costly is it, to keep positions open for extended periods of time?
If anyone could point me to where I could find these information, please do! ;)
edit:
seems like most things actually are addressed in the subcategories of the trading guide and the fee schedule
many issues remain though (like the fact that the whole account is used as margin at all times and that closing positions is a real pita)
